Wine for a Cause 2008
Shelter is one of the most essential needs, yet many go without this basic necessity. Let us show you how you can help homeless individuals and families find safe places to stay, begin work or gain the skills necessary to work and regain control of their lives.

McKinney-Vento Act Reauthorization / The Reed Bill

S.1801 Community Partnership to End Homelessness Act of 2005

The Reed Bill is a proposed amendment and reauthorization of the 1987 McKinney-Vento Act, which established an Interagency Council on the Homeless and helped coordinate homeless resources as well as provide funding for homeless assistance programs. For a more detialed descrition of the 1987 McKinney-Vento Act as well as a comparison to the proposed 2005 S.1801 please download the following memorandum from November 2005's Regional Steering Committee meeting: Proposed Amendment and Reauthorization of McKinney-Vento Act.

HomeBase hosted a special meeting of the Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness and Housing discussing S.1801 and its potential impacts on California communities on January 20th, 2006. This meeting drew 100 homeless service advocates, SHP/S+C grantees and other concerned CoC representatives from across the state.

We are also going to be developing an Issues Brief on this legislation. For more information, please contact Jessica Flintoft, HomeBase Projects Director.
