Senior Grant Writer and Contract Administrator

Homebase seeks a Senior Grant Writer and Contract Administrator to join our passionate and growing team. The base salary range is $78,000 – $95,000, contingent on experience, and a comprehensive benefits package, including a 5% 403(b) match, health insurance, and generous PTO. Homebase is a national public interest nonprofit dedicated to the social problem of homelessness. Our mission is to end homelessness, prevent its recurrence, and decrease its effect on communities. We work at the local, state and national levels to support communities in designing systems and implementing responses to homelessness while fostering collaboration and collective impact in addressing its political and economic causes.

Our main office is located in San Francisco, CA, and we have remote staff in several states across the country.

Summary

The Senior Grantwriter and Contract Administrator is a key member of the Homebase administrative team, working closely with Homebase’s Director of State and Local Programs and Finance Director to ensure competitive project proposals and effective management of Homebase’s State and Local Program contracts and grants.

This is a dynamic position with room to grow, working closely with administrative and programmatic staff across the organization to build efficient internal processes and support Homebase’s growth in furtherance of the Homebase mission.

Responsibilities

  • This position supports processes relating to proposals and business development, client management and grant administration including:

  • Coordinate Homebase’s processes for responding to requests for proposals (RFP) and other funding opportunities, including development of competitive applications

  • Provide significant proposal writing and submission support, including drafting content and assisting with preparation of scopes of work

  • Assistant with development of strategies for identifying and tracking funding opportunities, streamlining application processes, and enhancing effectiveness of Homebase competitive grant submissions

  • Serve as main point of contact during Homebase’s State and Local Programs contracting processes with states, counties, foundations, and other clients and partners to finalize work agreements

  • Review contracts and identify and track applicable provisions to support compliance with contractual obligations, procure insurance certifications, and assist program leads with tracking contract-related deadlines and spend-down

  • Problem-solving to strengthen efficiency of internal systems to track and administer contracts and proposals and streamline application and renewal processes

  • May include development of budgets and other development, marketing and operations support as needed, likely to include support for annual audit processes for Homebase’s State and Local Programs contracts and grants

Qualifications

Successful candidates must possess:

  • Exemplary customer service skills and ability to communicate professionally and responsively with Homebase’s clients and funders, verbally and in writing

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including persuasive writing, strategic messaging, and distillation of concepts for proposals and grant applications; grant-writing and proposal experience is a strong plus

  • Extremely well organized, including strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple ongoing projects under strict deadlines

  • Ability to effectively coordinate and manage projects across multiple collaborators in a 50+ person organization

  • Flexibility, strong interpersonal skills and able to succeed in a warm and supportive team-based environment

 

Homebase prefers candidates with:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience

  • At least 3+ years of workplace experience supporting and improving administrative processes across multiple internal teams and staff, with demonstrated increased responsibility

  • Experience managing contracts with state and local government agencies preferred but not required

  • Experience with Excel and ability to learn new systems such as Homebase’s project analytics and time management software

  • Demonstrated interest in learning about the systems, services and programs that address housing, homelessness, and poverty
